Starting a website these days doesn’t take much effort and isn’t even costly by any means. If it’s for a business venture, then of course you’ll want to take other things into consideration. If you’re unsure about exactly how to monetize your site, then you can make a short list of possibilities and then simply test them. Many factors must be taken into account regarding monetization including website design, traffic sources, and advertising methods. Just a few, out of many, examples for monetizing are contextual ads versus banner ads, and what you choose depends on certain factors. Each kind of monetization method will convert better under particular situations and conditions, and it’s good to know what those are. Today we would like to talk about a few monetizaton methods you can count on if they’re used properly because they are proven to work.
You can always locate relevant and valuable information, often niche specific, at places such as forums and social media/networking websites. So that is one possible area for you to explore because you can do the same thing, and there are ways to monetize a forum that can be very profitable. The difference between a free and private (pay for) forum is due to the difference in content; the private forum content is much higher quality. There would be no spam to deal with and the members will themselves share useful content and maintain the integrity of the forum just because they’re paying for it.
Whatever you do, it needs to have some relevance to the target audience of the site, and with that in mind you can put a job board on your website for whatever market it’s for. Yes, this is a very interesting way to monetize your site but in order to really reap its benefits, you’ll first have to have a site/blog that is targeted towards a specific niche market, and one that gets a good amount of traffic. And actually the overall method is easy to implement, as well. The biggest advantage of this monetization method is that the income is passive. We’ve seen listing fees anywhere from ten to one hundred dollars, and if you receive a lot of traffic you could possible charge more.
For example, Feedburner has a network for publishers, and you can use their service to accomplish this if you want. You can sign up with them for free and start to display these ads on CPM basis.
The next type of monetization method is all about audio, or Pay Per Play; when someone lands on your site, a very short audio ad plays, it’s only about 5 seconds in duration. It never hurts to be open about trying/testing new forms of advertising or monetization, and that’s the story with this one because it is new to IM. We like the diversity and flexibility with the monetization methods we’ve discussed, and we hope they have helped you get a better idea of what’s available to online marketers. But still, it always pays to do your own study and research before you actually opt for a method. Don’t waste too much of your time in the research though, because you should also be ready to test out new methods as you come across them. Experimenting is the key to success with any website’s monetization model because you’ll have to see what your target audience is accepting and what they’re actually comfortable with.
